Happy Wednesday!

Did you know it now costs over $300,000 to raise a child? This includes daycare, food, and health insurance (but not college). You can see which states cost the most and least here!

Here’s what we’ve got this week:

Horse mustaches?🐴

What’s your favorite horse fact?

  1. Horses can’t burp or throw up. They can’t even breathe through their mouths! A special one-way valve keeps food moving only downward. 🐴

  2. Their teeth take up more space in their skull than their brain! Horses have big teeth to grind tough grass all day. Their brains weigh less than 1.5 pounds! 🦷

  3. Because their eyes sit on the sides of their heads, horses can almost see all the way around themselves! They only can’t see right in front of their nose or directly behind them. They also have the largest eyes of any land mammal! 👀

  4. Some horses grow mustaches! Certain breeds, like Gypsy Vanners, use them to feel for grass in the dark. 🥸

  5. Horses can make up to 10 gallons of spit each day! This helps them chew and digest all the plants they eat. 🪣

EVER WONDER?

What causes body odor (BO)? 🧼

Where does body odor (BO) come from?

Body odor happens when sweat mixes with bacteria on your skin.

Your body has two types of sweat glands:

  • Eccrine glands are found all over your body. They make watery sweat with salt. This sweat does not smell.

  • Apocrine glands are found in places like your armpits and groin. They make thicker sweat with fats and proteins. This sweat doesn’t smell at first, but bacteria break the fats and proteins down, and that process creates smells.

What else affects our body odor?
  • Genetics: Your genes affect how much you sweat, the kinds of bacteria on your skin, and how strong you smell. Some people naturally smell less.

  • Diet: Foods like garlic, onions, spicy food, red meat, and asparagus can make smells stronger.

  • Stress: Stress sweat (which is produced by apocrine glands) usually smells stronger than exercise sweat.
