EVER WONDER?

Why are eggs different colors? 🥚

Egg color depends on the hen’s genes. Different kinds of chickens lay different colored eggs.

All eggs start out white. As they form inside the hen, some hens add color while others do not.

  • Leghorn hens ➡️ white eggs

  • Rhode Island Red hens ➡️ brown eggs

  • Ameraucana hens ➡️ blue eggs

  • Olive Egger chicken ➡️ green eggs

Do different colored eggs taste different? 🍳

Nope! The color doesn’t change the taste or nutrition.

In the U.S., white eggs are more common. In England, brown eggs are more common.

However, some stores in England are switching to white eggs because the hens that lay them eat less and produce more eggs, which helps the environment.
