5 FACTS
Orcas wear salmon hats? 🐳
Orcas are incredibly smart - and full of surprises:
Orcas can swim up to 34 mph and travel nearly 100 miles a day! They even swim in formation to save energy, like how birds fly in V-shapes to reduce drag. 🚀
Orcas live in every ocean on Earth, from the ice waters of Antarctica to the tropics of Australia! 🌎
Orcas can grow as long as a school bus (up to 33 feet) and weigh more than an elephant (up to 22,000 pounds)! 🚌
Each orca family has its own “language” of clicks, whistles, and other sounds. Most stay with their moms for life and hunt, travel, and play together. They form one of the strongest family bonds in all of nature! ❤️
Some orcas have been “wearing” salmon on their heads! Scientists aren’t sure why, but it may be play or tradition.

DID YOU KNOW?
Why are yawns contagious? 😮
You’re 6 times more likely to yawn when you see someone else yawn.
Why do we yawn?
Yawning doesn’t boost oxygen like people once thought. Research has shown there’s no correlation between our oxygen levels and yawning.
Instead, yawning wakes your brain up and helps cool it down. In fact, yawning raises our heart rate for up to 10-15 seconds - similar to a boost of caffeine!
But why are yawns so contagious?
Here are a couple theories:
We yawn out of empathy. We’re more likely to yawn after a friend than a stranger.
Our mirror neurons copy people around us, even without us thinking about it! That’s why just reading about yawns can make you yawn!
