5 FACTS
Dolphins never sleep? 🐬
Dolphins are famous for being smart - they can solve problems and recognize themselves in mirrors. But here are five facts that may surprise you:
Dolphins are very social. They even have names for each other, which they share through special whistles! 🐬
Dolphins love to play. They play-fight, surf waves, toss seaweed, and even gently nibble pufferfish to get a mild “buzz.” 🐡
Dolphins are never fully asleep! Half of their brain rests while the other half stays awake so they can swim, breathe, and stay alert. 😴
They can leap up to 20 feet out of the water and swim up to 20 mph! 💨
Dolphins have incredible memories - sometimes even better than elephants! Some can recognize another dolphin’s whistle that they haven’t heard in more than 20 years! 📚

SCIENCE QUESTIONS
How do magnets work? 🧲
Magnets work because of tiny, charged particles called electrons.
Everything is made of atoms. Every atom has electrons that spin and create magnetic fields. In most objects, these fields point in random directions and cancel out.
However, in metals like iron, nickel, and cobalt, many of these fields line up. When they line up together, they create a magnetic domain.
Magnets can be made by using a strong magnetic field or electricity. This helps align all the magnetic domains in the object, which turns it into a permanent magnet!
Fun magnet facts:
Earth is a giant magnet. Its magnetic field protects us from harmful solar radiation and slowly shifts over time. 🌎
The first magnets were lodestones. Over 2,000 years ago, Chinese scientists used them to make the first compasses. 🧭
Some animals sense magnetism! Birds, turtles, and even bacteria use Earth’s magnetic field to navigate while migrating. 🐢
Watch how magnets are made! (This will definitely give you a greater appreciation for your everyday kitchen magnets!) 😮
TRIVIA CORNER
Christmas trees: the numbers 🎄
How many Christmas trees are sold worldwide each year?
Fun facts:
It takes about 7 years to grow a 7-foot tree. 📏
The 2024 Rockefeller Center tree was 74 feet tall, weighed 11 tons, and was 70 years old! ⌛
