Skunks can spray like a water gun! Skunks don’t release all of their spray at once. They can spray 5-6 times in a row and hit a target up to 15 feet away! A skunk can store about a teaspoon of spray, and if it runs out, it may take up to 2 weeks to completely refill. 🔫

They might do a handstand to warn you! Skunks don’t want to waste their spray, so they usually give a warning first. They may stomp their feet, raise their tail, or even do a handstand. Often this is enough to scare predators away! ⚠️

Their spray is strong enough to make bears stay away! Skunk spray contains sulfur-based chemicals that smell like rotten eggs. The smell can stick to fur, clothes, and skin for weeks, which is why many animals choose to avoid them. 🐻

Skunks are great gardeners! Skunks eat many different foods, including insects, berries, eggs, small animals, and mushrooms. By eating lots of bugs, they help protect gardens and plants! 🌻

A group of skunks is called a “surfeit”! The word surfeit means “too much of something.” Baby skunks are called kits. 🦨
