Rabbits 🐰

Did you know that some rabbits can grow extraordinarily large? The largest Continental Giants have reached up to 4 feet long and 50 pounds, though most are much smaller. Here are some more surprising rabbit facts:
Rabbits can remember human faces, voices, and smells! Their short-term memory is short (about 5 minutes), but they remember who’s gentle with them, who brings food, and they can even hold grudges. 🧠
They sleep with their eyes (partially) open! A third eyelid protects their eyes while they sleep, keeping them always on alert for danger! 👀
Rabbits dream! Twitching whiskers, moving feet, and soft purring are all signs of REM sleep, which means they’re probably dreaming! 💤
Their teeth never stop growing! Rabbit teeth grow 3-5 inches every year. They need to constantly eat plants to wear their teeth down. Otherwise, their teeth can overgrow and cause infections. 🦷
They eat their poop! Rabbits produce two kinds of droppings: hard pellets and soft ones called cecotropes, which are packed with nutrients, vitamins, and gut bacteria. Rabbits eat these to get the most out of their food! 💩
They can memorize maps! Rabbits live in complex underground warrens with many escape routes, and they memorize the entire layout so they can flee at high speeds in total darkness. 🗺️
Baby rabbits are born blind, deaf, and hairless. Pregnancies last just 30 days, and babies nurse for only a couple of minutes each day. This helps minimize the mother’s time at the nest to keep them hidden and safe! 👶
Rabbits have special elastic tendons in their feet that act like springs, letting them jump more than 10 feet in a single leap! 🦵
When threatened, rabbits can dramatically slow their breathing and heart rate. This “stealth mode” makes them harder for predators to detect and conserves energy for a sudden escape. ❤️
Rabbits can see nearly 360 degrees! This helps them spot predators from almost any direction, except they have a blind spot right in front of their nose. This is why they rely on whiskers and smell when foraging. 👃
