Owls 🦉

Some surprising owl facts:
Owls don’t have round eyeballs! Their eyes are long tubes that work like tiny telescopes, amplifying light. This helps them see in the dark, but tit also means they can’t rotate their eyes like we do. Instead, they have to move their whole head. 👁️
Their ears aren’t even! One ear sits higher than the other, which helps them tell exactly where a sound is coming from, almost like having a built-in 3D map! 👂
Owls can spin their heads 270°! Their neck bones have special spaces for blood vessels to slip through, and they store extra blood so they don’t pass out when they twist their heads all the way. 🦴
They fly silently. Tiny comb-like edges on their feathers break up the air, so they can swoop within inches of their prey without making a sound. 🔇
The great gray owl can “turn into” tree bark! It flattens its body and squints its eyes until it blends in perfectly with a tree trunk! 🫣

Can you spot the hidden great gray owls?
They have fluffy “snow pants”! Thick feathers on their legs and feet trap heat and keep them warm and protect against frostbite. 👖
Owls have a third eyelid that slides sideways like a windshield wiper! It’s see-through and cleans their eyes while still letting them see. 👀
Their grip is super strong! Their talons can squeeze with about 500 psi (as strong as a large dog’s bite) and they can lock their talons so they don’t have to use muscle to hold on. 💪
Owls swallow prey whole! Their stomach keeps the soft parts and later spits out the leftovers (bones, fur, teeth) in a pellet. 💩
They can hear animals under two feet of snow! They can even hear a heartbeat, then dive hard enough to punch through the snow and grab their prey. ❄️
