Jaguars have the strongest bite of any cat! Their bite is 3 times stronger than a lion’s and 1.5 times stronger than a tiger’s, even though they’re smaller. They can bite through bone! 🦴

Armor can’t stop them! Jaguars can crush tough shells that protect other animals. They can hunt armadillos, tortoises, turtles, and caimans (relatives of alligators)! 🐊

Jaguars love water! They are excellent swimmers, and can easily cross rivers and wetlands. They catch fish, hunt caimans in the water, and can swim more than 1.5 miles without stopping! 🐟

They’re the only family member native to the Americas. Jaguars live in North, Central, and South America. They can survive in rainforests, grasslands, wetlands, and even dry areas! Their closest relatives (lions, tigers, and leopards) all live in Africa or Asia. 🌎

Black Panthers are really jaguars or leopards. Some jaguars have a gene that makes their fur look almost completely black. If you look closely, you can still see their spots! ⚫

Every jaguar has a unique spot pattern! Wildlife scientists use these patterns to tell jaguars apart, just like fingerprints! Their spots also help them blend into the rainforest’s patchy sunlight and shadows. 🔍

They are built for power! Jaguars are packed with muscle. They can wrestle prey, climb trees, and even drag large prey into trees to keep them away from scavengers. A male jaguar can drag over 500 pounds! 💪

Jaguars will eat almost anything! They are among the least picky predators and have been seen eating more than 85 different kinds of animals, including deer, monkeys, reptiles, fish, birds, and rodents! 🦌

Jaguars can leap the length of a small bus! They can jump 20 feet forward and up to 12 feet in the air. This helps them surprise prey. In fact, the name “jaguar” comes from an Indigenous word meaning “he who kills with one leap.” 🚌

They can roar, but they can’t purr. Instead, they greet other jaguars with a friendly snorting sound! ❤️
